Belding City Manager awarded state tribute upon retirement

State Rep. Pat Outman congratulated Belding City Manager Jon Stoppels on his retirement on Tuesday and awarded him a state tribute commemorating his years of service to the community.

“Over the years, Jon has worked tirelessly for the people of this community, and it is no doubt better off because of his service here,” Outman said. “While his dedication will be missed, the impact of his work will last for years to come. We thank him for his steadfast commitment to the city of Belding wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement.”

During his 48-year career in city government, Stoppels played a key role in advocating for funding for Belding’s wastewater treatment plant and worked to improve local parks. He was an integral part of establishing Belding’s Music in the Park and securing grants and collaborating with the Department of Natural Resources to develop new park spaces.
